Qualis Commercial appoints RG Group to deliver multi-storey car park in Epping
Qualis Commercial has appointed contractor RG Group to build a new 330 space multi-storey car park at Cottis Lane in Epping Town Centre.
The site is part of a five-site redevelopment plan for the town centre which will see the creation of 269 new homes, including affordable homes across three residential sites. In addition, Epping Forest District Council with its contractor Places Leisure will deliver a new state of the art leisure centre.
RG Group will start construction on the car park in September 2022, with work expected to be completed by Summer 2023. The car park forms the essential first phase of development at Cottis Lane.
Simon Rutter, Managing Director of Qualis Commercial explains, “We are pleased to be working with RG Group on the delivery of the new car park which is a crucial part of our development plans for the town. Once the car park is completed, the site at Bakers Lane, can be released to provide a new leisure centre, which is a priority for the local community.
“We have been working closely with local councillors to reduce the impact of the closure of the existing car park at Cottis Lane and expect to be provide temporary parking on our St John’s Road site. We are also creating a temporary space for market traders to park their vehicles on market day.”
During the construction the public toilets will remain open along with four accessible parking bays for those visitors that need them.
Chris Lambourn, Director of RG Group comments, “RG Group are very pleased to be part of this exciting development and helping to deliver the first phase of this project which will be a great asset to the local community.”
Chris Whitbread, Leader of Epping Forest District Council said, “The start of work on site at the Cottis Lane Car park is the catalyst for the plans for Epping and once complete will make way for work to start on the much-anticipated new leisure centre and swimming pool.
“The pandemic has seen a change in people’s parking habits, so whilst our car parks don’t always reach full capacity, we are pleased to be able to address concerns raised by members of the local community, and work with Qualis to provide some additional temporary car parking at St John’s while the construction work takes place.”
The brand new car park will have electric vehicle charging, achieve a Park Mark Gold Standard and we will introduce an active meanwhile space before phase two is built.
